Walk held with the slogan Say no to Drugs at COMSATS University Islamabad,
Sahiwal Campus The walk was part of the awareness campaign, which includes lectures
at educational institutions and sports events in collaboration of Awam Ki Awaz,
Sahiwal, Pakistan Zindabad Movement & Radio Awaz FM 105, Sahiwal Deputy Commissioner
Sahiwal Muhammad Zaman Watto led the walk which was also attended by DSP Traffic
Peer Riaz Ahmad, District Live Stock Officer Dr. Samreen Kousar, Civil Defense Officer
Ms. Fareeha Jafar, Excise & Taxation Officer Khalid Zahoor, DSP Motorways Masood
Khan, Director Art Council Dr. Riaz Hamdani, members of civil society and a large
number of faculty, staff & students.
The participants expressed their resolve and determination to eradicate drugs from
society. Speaking on the occasion Deputy Commissioner of Sahiwal Mr. Muhammad Zaman
Watto, told the participants that the use of narcotics was not only injurious to
its users health but affects their families as well. He sought the cooperation of
the family to discourage them from using drugs.
He maintained that institutions were not only keeping a check on drug smuggling,
but also actively engaged in awareness as well as treatment of addicts. Further,
the main purpose of awareness campaign is to create a culture of saying No to Drugs
willingly by society, he said. Director CUI, Sahiwal Campus Prof. Dr. Saleem Farooq
Shaukat said, Drug addiction in our youth is a serious issue.
Drug addiction is harmful not only for addicted but also for society. Long-term
use of drugs causes permanent and harmful effects on the body and mind. Addiction
of narcotics must be eradicated from its roots to safeguard the youth and prosperity
of Pakistan.
He emphasized the causes and effects of drug abuse and said there should be an awareness
of the dangerous effects of narcotics in the youth of Pakistan. Other participants
also highlighted the adversities of addiction and its ill-effects on individuals
and families.
